LILI KRAUS RECITAL
VISIT TO BAY OF PLENTY A rare treat was offered music followers in the Bay of Plenty recently when the .celebrated Hungarian pianiste, Lili Kraus, gave a recital at Tauranga. The visiting pianiste was introduced to the public by Mr E'. S. Hylton, on behalf of the Lili Kraus Committee.
Her programme included Toccata and Fugue in D minor by Bach, Sonata in- A minor, op. 143 by Schubert, Sonata in E major, op. 109 by Beethoven and Etudes Symphoniques, op. 13 by Schumann. Her fourth item was originally another selection from Beethoven but she changed this and played instead, Sonata in A major, K. 331 (“Alla Turca”) by Mozart. This work was exceptionally well received by the! audience. During the programme Madame Kraus gave her own annotations from the platform. At the conclusion of her' recital she was recalled again and again and played two encores, slow waltzes by Schubert and Hungarian -folk songs. A special matinee for school children was given on Tuesday morning, when 600 pupils of district schools were given an opportunity to develop an appreciation of gdod music.
The grand piano used for both recitals was lent by Mrs E. E. Broad. In the twelve months that Lili Kraus has spent in, New she has given almost 130 public performances nearly 70 of which have been charitable concerts.
