WANDERING HORSES

POUNDKEEPER’S ACTION MAORI CHARGED Perhaps owners of wandering stock might improve their efforts to keep the animals at home as a result of the experience of Jim Rawiri who was charged in the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday with permitting horses to wander at large on the highway. Rawiri did not appear in court. Mr A. Carling, poundkeeper, stated that he had been taking two horses, found wandering on the road to the pound when he met Rawiri, their owner, who had driven them home. The horses in question had been impounded before. A fine of £2 with 10s costs was imposed.
