TRAFFIC OFFENCES

SEVERAL CONVICTIONS ELDERLY MOTORIST FINED Three convictions for breaches of traffic regulations were laid in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. William Gleeson was convicted and fined £2 (costs 12s) "for having no heavy traffic license. On a charge of having no vehicle authority Gleeson was convicted and fined 10s (costs 10s). T. W. Jury appeared on counts of using a motor vehicle for a different purpose than indicated by the registration plates and of having no warrant of fitness either for the vehicle, a motor tractor or for a trailer. He was convicted and fined £1 (costs 10s), 10s (costs 10s), 10s (costs 10s). Jury (Mr Otley) stated that he had a vehicle authority but was not carrying it when accosted. He was a driver of the vehicle only and was employed by its owner-. Alfred Steele was charged with failing to keep as far as practicable to the left of the Ohope-Whakatane road.

Sergeant Farrell stated that defendant had been involved in a collision and had been on his wrong side at the time. He stated that Steele was 77 years of age and perhaps some of his faculties were slightly impaired. Defendant was fined £1 (costs 10s).
