SAFEGUARDS AT APPROACH AID TO MOTORISTS Safeguards for motorists at the approach to the Pekatahi Bridge were referred to in a letter received by the Whakatane County Council at its June meeting from the Automobile Association. Following representations made in 1946 the Railway Department erected safeguards designed to eliminate the risk to motorists driving into the cattle stop at night or during fog when travelling from Taneatua towards Whakatane West. a It was also considered that a White guide line and a reflecting sign were necesary. The Railway Department recently completed the barriers, and the A.A. has a reflecting sign ready for erection. The council’s co-operation was sought in painting a white line to to motor drivers that their pathway bears right off the railway line.—
