Yesterday was a quiet day for Whakatane shops, in marked contrast with last Thursday, which Was “the day before the 20th of the month.” Tennis Club Benefit The Whakatane Lawn Tennis Club which is laying down courts in the Domain, hopes to benefit substantially from the combined concert and picture night in the Grand Theatre next Wednesday. Wealth From Pine Land From an area of 103 acres of 18-year-old pine forest in the Galatea riding there had been a yield of 5,000,000 ft. of timber, said Cr T. G. H. Cawte during discussion on milling operations in the Whakatane County. These figures had been taken by a Forestry Department ranger, he said.
