Bay of Plenty Beacon Published Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25, 1947 WILL POWER “CUTS” REMAIN OFF ?
EVERYONE has had a feeling of relief since the “cuts” in the use of electricity were suddenly lifted last Saturday. It has been a brighter week for householders. The question now is: Can the peak load be kept down sufficiently to avoid the re-imposition of some or all of the “cuts?” Whakatane Borough consumers have been requested to be economical in their use of power from 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., and no doubt there will be a general desire to meet the wishes of the engineers and keep the peak load down. If radiators and water heaters as well as unnecessary lights are not in use the peak will remain below the danger level. If some careless people fail to observe the “gentlemen’s agreement” offered by the engineers the whole community will suffer through a restoration of the “cuts.” It is a matter for general satisfaction that various factors have combined to enable the power authorities to cease the irksome restrictions of recent months. Now is the time for all householders to show just how economical they can be in their use of electricity in their homes.
