BRANCH FORMED

AIK FORCE ASSOCIATION OFFICERS ELECTED The Wliakatane branch of the Air Force Association (A.F.A. for short) had an "excellent “take-off” on Monday evening when a number of keen ex-Air Force personnel met in the Air Training Corps Hall. Mr S. N. Armstrong took the chair and explained that permission had been received from A.F.A. Headquarters in Wellington for the formation of a branch in Whakatane. Some of those present were already members of the Auckland branch. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr Tom Warner; vicepresident, Messrs. Neville Harris and Jack Moore; committee, Messrs. Jack Curtis, W. Smythe, J. Budd, A. Jeff ares, E. Wilson and S. N. Armstrong; secretary, Mr A. D. Meyer.

The executive comprising the above will meet next Tuesday to discuss making a drive for a larger membership and arranging a social function to get ex-Air Force personnel together. Subscriptions will be 10/-, of which 3/- is paid to the Dominion office in Wellington as capitation fee. Future Activity

Congratulations from the Dominion office on the- decision to form a Whakatane branch were received in a letter from the Dominion secretary. Further congratulations and helpful advice were received from the secretary of the Tauranga branch. It is hoped that Whakatane will send a delegate in November to the annual meeting of the Dominion council of the association.

Commenting on the fact that some of those present were members of the Aero Club, the Air Training Corps and the R.S.A. the chairman said that the formation of a branch of the A.F.A. should assist these other organisations rather than detract from their strength. The A.F.A. / in Whakatane would work hand in hand with the Aero Club and with other service men’s associations. Its aim was to keep alive the spirit of comradeship that had existed among members of the Air Force during the war years.
