SNOOKER TOURNAMENT
OPOTIKI v WHAKATANE A Whakatane snooker team played Opotiki, holders of the Billiards Ltd. Cup at Mr Snowy Howards’ saloon, Opotiki, last week. Opotiki had a narrow win by four games to three. Cooky Ross had the luck of a “Chinaman” to beat Thompson. Owie Waterson had an easy win against Crapp by over 40. Jacko Foy was beaten by young B. Hudson by over 30. The winner gave a nice exhibition and had Jacko scratching all through the game, and when it came to the colours potted the lot. Bert Day got a good licking from W. Hona. Ray Young was lucky to beat Davies. Both players were sparring for an opening at the start and would not open up the play. Ray got the last ball to win. Hui Hudson was beaten by the much older player McGarvey who had too old a head for the young fellow.
Jumbo Apanui won the final and deciding game from Hignet after an exciting game.
