Special Cattle Entries The attention, of farmers is drawn to an advertisement on this page of special entries of, dairy heifers on account of Mr Alex McLean which will be offered at Mr L. Only One Letter. . The Whakatane Lady Galway Guild members were very pleased to receive the letter of thanks from Worcester, England, which was published in the Beacon on Wednesday. For the past seven years they have sent away thousands of garments, but this was the first letter they have received from individuals telling them where their gifts were distributed.
Was Friday Lucky? Although last Friday was the thirteenth of the month it seemed to be a lucky and happy day for Whakatane people. The Strand was as busy as ever all day, and the Friday night crowd gave no signs of believing that Friday the thirteenth is a day for gloom and misfortune. The only unlucky people seemed to be late-comers trying to find parking places for their cars.
Rangitaiki Drainage Rates The prospect of a substantial increase in drainage rates for farmers on the Rangitaiki Plains has caused considerable comment during recent days. The Drainage Committee representing ratepayers has called an extraordinary meeting of ratepayers for Thursday evening at the Awakeri Hall, and it is apparent that a strong protest will be made against what appears to be another increase in farmers’ costs.
