JUSTICES OF THE PEACE
RAY OF PLENTY MEETING Nineteen justices, including four newly-appointed J.P’s, two of whom were women, attended a recent general meeting of the Bay of Plenty Justices of the Peace Association at Te Puke. The president, Hon. B. C. Robbins, of Tauranga, gave an address on the recent Dominion conference held at Nelson. More than 100 remits had been considered during three days and the conference had been visited by the Minister of Justice, Mr Mason. The conference had been ably conducted by the Nelson association and generous hospitality had been extended to members and lady visitors. The registrar read correspondence with the Auckland association regarding overlapping of membership. Three requests were received from justices who are now members of the Auckland association for transfer to the Bay of Plenty association.
It was decided to make known the desirability of the enrolment of all justices who are resident in the Bay in their own association. This is considered specially important in view of the possibility of Tauranga being the venue of the Dominion conference in 1949.
A successful gathering concluded with votes of thanks to the president for his informative report and to the Te Puke justices for their assistance.
