CHESS MATCH

WHAKATANE v EDGECUMBE A match between the Whakatane and Edgecumbe chess clubs at Edgecumbe on Wednesday evening resulted in a draw, each club having four wins, and one game being drawn. The two Whakatane veterans, Smith and White, were two experienced for their Edgecumbe opponents, their play being of a standard not often attained in small clubs. Results of games, Whakatane names being mentioned first:— Smith beat P. Melville; Smitfh beat A. Marx; White beat K. Marx; White drew with Sneling; Moore lost to A. Marx; Moore lost to Teesdale; Shaw beat D. Melville; Mundy lost to R. Marx.
