WOMEN MEMBERS

ON HOSPITAL BOARDS INSTITUTE PROPOSAL A proposal for women’s representation on hospital boards was brought before the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board at its meeting on Thursday in a letter from the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation of Women’s Institutes. This letter was the result of a remit passed by the federated institutes asking that seats on a hospital board should be set aside for women members so that women candidates will stand for election against women candidates and not against men as at present. Mr L. Buddie pointed'out that the constitution of hospital boards was fixed by law, and the basis of representation would have to be altered by legislation to provide the change suggested in the letter. Members of the board were there as representatives of the contributing local bodies.

The matter of drafting a suitable reply was left to the chairman and secretary.
