MOVE TO EXPAND SHOW ACTIVITIES

AT its June meeting the Whakatane Borough Council discussed the proposal to give a long lease of the showgrounds portion of the Domain to the A. and P. show organisation. This matter is linked with the project to move the Winter Show Building to a site nearby and eventually to erect a grandstand. That this forward move has been delayed for years because of the war is nobody’s fault. It is everybody’s business that a programme for making, the best possible use of the Domain shduld be pushed forward vigorously. Members of the council are looking forward to the time not far distant when Whakatane will be the venue of an annual show that will bear comparison with those held in such larger centres as Gisborne and Hamilton. This is a far-sighted policy and one which deserves the active support of the whole district.
