TEMPORARY DWELLINGS
PERMITS NECESSARY POSITION IN BOROUGH That the Whakatane Borough Council had tried in every way to meet the wishes of residents applying for permits for temporary dwellings was stressed at its meeting on Monday. The discussion arose over an application of J. J. Laskey for a permit for a temporary residence in McGarvey’s Road. The inspector said he had noticed that the building had been erected and had issued a notice to Mr Laskey to remove it. The application was the result of this. Mr Laskey had previously obtained a permit for a house.
Councillors were in agreement that the council must not impose hardship on people who had housing difficulties, but at the same time the . council expected residents to observe the building by-laws. A motion was approved that permission be given for the building to be erected in accordance with the Building Inspector’s requirements and- provided the applicant agrees to remove this temporary building when he erects his dwelling.
