CITIZENS BAND
COUNCIL MAKES £4O GRANT The Citizens Band was voted a grant of £4O for the year by the Whakatane Borough Council at Monday’s meeting. Before the council was the band’s balance sheet showing considerable assets and cash in the bank. The Mayor commented that the band had raised £4l through concerts, which showed that it was making a great effort to help itself. Cr A. J. Canning explained that the band wanted about £IOOO as a fund to buy new instruments. Its present instruments were old and patched, and some of those in use were on loan to the band.
“Parish of Waimana” That the whole of the Whakatane Borough jfe legally described as “in the Parish of Waimana” in documents relating to land transfers and subdivisions is a curious survival of old-time naming of localities which frequently causes smiles when documents are read out.
