PAPER MILLS HOLD-UP
PIPELINE WASHOUT ' PRODUCTION DELAY As a result of the pipeline to the mills washing out and collapsing several days production has been lost at the Whakatane Paper Mills. The source of the trouble was erosion over the years coupled with the recent flush of water after the rains. The bank supporting the pipeline washed away, leaving two lengths of pipe hanging. One length collapsed under the strain leaving the mill without any supply of water at all.
Bulldozing and other works are being pushed on, the gangs working throughout the night in an effort to repair the damage as soon as possible. It is hoped to resume work at the mill at 8 o’clock on Thursday morning.
