TO PAY THREE FINES
SEQUEL TO ASSAULT An incident in The Strand on May 29 had a sequel in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court yesterday when Kennedy Lawson, pleaded guilty before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., to charges of assaulting Reginald Charles West, using indecent language in a public place and procuring liquor during the currency of his prohibition order. Sergeant Farrell told the magistrate that Mr West, a representative of the Native Department, had met Lawson and had asked him to vacate premises belonging to the department because he was no longer in the department’s employ. Lawson had asaulted Mr West. Lawson was fined £5 for assault, £5 for using indecent language and £2 for breach of his prohibition order.
