ROD AND GUN CLUB

ANNUAL SMOKO VERY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION There was an attendance of over 150 members, wives and friends at the Annual Smoko of the Whakatane Rod and Gun Club held in the Winter Show Buildings recently. The president, Mr J. D. Rivett, presided.

This year the function took the form of a Ladies’ Evening and was declared by all present as the most successful event of the kind yet staged in Whakatane. Representatives of Sister Clubs and. Sports Bodies throughout the district were present to partake of the many and varied spoils of field and stream associated with such a club, which the more fortunate members were able to secure. ‘

Opening Address

The president, in welcoming the ladies and visitors to the function, apologised for the lack of space at the tables, but stated that the attendance had exceeded all expectations, and on future occasions the club would not again be caught napping in that respect. However, the catering arrangements were more than adequate to cope with the situation and a jolly time was enjoyed by all. , Apologies for absence were received from Mr W. Sullivan, M.P., Mr McNamara, Conservator of Fish and Game, Mr B. S. Barry, Mayor, Mr Thomas, Te Teko, Rod and Gun Club, Mr G. L. Day on behalf of the Opotiki Rod and Gun Club, Mr Thomas, Rotorua Rod and Gun Club and Mr Jaeger, Tauranga Rod and Gun Club. *

Duririg the evening much appreciated, items were given by Mrs E, Armstrong, Miss D. Sykes, Mr C, Kerr, Mr Haeusler and Mr Tyssen,
