New Plymouth Remembrance
One hundred white crosses bearing the number, rank, and names of servicemen who fell in the war were placed in the Field of Remembrance on a patch of turf opposite the New Plymouth Cenotaph and for a week they were illuminated' from dusk till midnight. Last year the Field of Remembrance held about 60 crosses which were floodlit from the normal electricity supply. Because of the power shortage, this year’s lighting came from a battery-run car headlamp on a pole overlooking the field.
