BAY RUGBY UNION
REPRESENTATIVE FIXTURES BAY GAME AT TE'PUKE Mr A. E. Spratt presided at a special. meeting of delegates of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union, held during the weekend. All Sub-Unions were represented, the Te Puke delegates being Messrs. Geo. Farmer 1 and P. Basham.
The re-drafting of the rules and constitution occupied considerable time but the revised draft, with alterations, was ultimately adopted.
The donors of the Te Hurunui Apanui Shield did not'favour any change for this year but were prepared to accept a majority ruling next year. The president and secretary are to approach them again pointing out that a majority opinion had already agreed to the principle of four elimination games, followed by the ordinary challenge games by the winners, subject to the approval of the donors, and that it was desired to bring in the new system this season.
It was agreed that a dispensation be granted to the Te Puke SubUnion to allow players from the back of Pongakawa to play in Te Puke. Rotorua was not prepared to change ' the boundary as from the lake side, one Rotorua club enrolled a number of players. The following are the Bay fixtures for the season and it is to be noted that it is the first occasion on which the Bay of Plenty has agreed to a junior representative fixture: — June 21: Poverty Bay, at Gisborne. July 12: Thames Valley (senior and junior) at Te Puke. July 19: East Coast, at Rotorua. August 9: Auckland at Whakatane. August 16: Waikato at Tauranga. A ballot to appoint junior selectors resulted in the appointees being Messrs. F. A. Burt (Rangitaiki), W. Morrison Rotorua) and J. Reid (Opotiki).
