NEW RABBIT RATE
HALF THE MAXIMUM BOARD’S DECISION Half the maximum allowed under the Act, equalling a halfpenny on sheep and lambs and 2-£d on cattle and calves was struck as a rate for the year ending March 3, 1948, by the latest meeting of the East Coast Rabbit Board. The rate for the financial year just ended was 3-10ths of a penny on sheep and lambs and lgd on cattle and calves. By increasing the rate it was stated, the board was making provision for additional expenditure to put its programme into effect in a serious effort to minimise the danger of increased rabbit population in the area under its jurisdiction. Following is a resume of the'kills for March: Southern Wairoa,, 1078; Northern Wairoa, 285; Whakatane, 17; total, 1380.
