United defeated P.W.D. 52-3. , > Juniors United defeated Wairaka 15-0. Poroporo beat Waimana 19-0. RAN GIT AIKI UNION Seniors Te Teko defeated Otakiri 8-6. Thornton drew with Matahina 8-8. Juniors Te Teko beat Thornton 17-0. Matata beat Otakiri 12-3. BASKETBALL Following are the results of Saturday’s draw:— Whakatane A 18 beat Matata A 15. Huimai 28 beat Matata B 6. Edgecumbe 9 beat Thornton United 5. Whakatane C 14 beat Taneatua 3. Paroa 21 beat Orini 10. Thornton 6 beat Poroporo 5. Whakatane B 23 beat Rangataua 6. HOCKEY North Men Rangers v Richmond 5-1. In the last few minutes of play Biddle took the ball on the halfway mark. He put in a high kick towards the Paroa goal line and followed through to score. UNITED’S DAY FIFTY-TWO POINT VICTORY P.W.D. showed up well from the kick-off but the whites appeared to have the edge on them as the game advanced. However in the very early stages H. Ratima from closein play slipped across to draw first blood. His try went unconverted. The White jerseys then proceeded to dominate the play keeping the ball well inside P.W.D.’s half. McGougan’s line-finders were a source of strength to United in pinning the reds down. Lack of understanding cost United certain points but a handy free kick by McGougan evened the points.

He repeated the. performance from a short cut in but missed with the kick. Butler scored next for United after some ragged play. United 33, P.W.D. 3. Campbell found three points with a penalty kick and Cave sprinted through to touch down for an unconverted try. Campbell was next with a score .from a dribbling rush. United 42, P.W.D. .3.

Carey was next to score, McGougan converting. On the stroke of time De Lacey scored and converted making the final score: United 52, P.W.D. 3. Mr H. Mahy was referee.

JUNIOR GAMES UNITED DEFEATS WAIRAKA United defeated Wairaka by 15 points to nil in a very good game. Scorers for United were: Taylor, Henderson, Carling and Rutherford (2). Mr C. Wells was referee. POROPORO v WAIMANA The match between Waimana and Poroporo was characterised by very ragged play. The Poroporo wing, T. Trau, gave a good performance. The final score was: Poroporo 19, Waimana 0. Scorers were: Trau (3), T. Paul, Mokai. The remaining four points were made up by two conversions by Tiepa. Mr Brown was referee.
