OLD PEOPLE’S HOME
OPOTIKI BOARD’S INTEREST ■STILL A LIVE ISSUE The suggestion that Whakatane and- Opotiki districts should combine forces in the establishment of a home for old people, has met with favourable consideration in Opotiki. The Hospital Board of that district •in reply to the suggestion has written Whakatane expressing its interest and seeking further details. The chairman (Mr J. Mullins) said that he had given the matter some thought and had wondered if it might not be possible to utilise one of the cottages in Stewart Street when staff members vacated it.
Mr McCready observed that though the Board had no actual plans or details, it was encouraging to learn of Opotiki’s interest, and all members could still keep ‘an eye out’ for a suitable building. It was agreed to advise Opotiki that though the Board had as yet nothing tangible to mind, it was seriously considering the matter with a view to developing a future scheme. Opotiki would be notified of future developments.
