CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BRANCH MEETING QUESTION OF TAR SEALING The monthly general meeting of the Murupara branch of the Chamber of Commerce was held recently. Mr. E. Dykstra presided over a good attendance. Both inward and outwapd correspondence was heavy and covered local matters requiring attention. The branch is of the opinion that another resident Health Nurse should be appointed but the Health Department cannot see their way clear to make the appointment on account of the shortage of trained staff.
In the matter of tar sealing of the road surfaces through the township of Murupara indications are that the matter will be given consideration with the next season’s sealing programme.
■the reply from the Post Office Department appears to be encouraging as it indicates that there is still available accommodation on the Murupara switch board for an additional five telephones while if necessary a larger switch board can be installed.. It is, however, pointed out that residents desiring telephonic connections must be prepared to erect their own private lines to the post office. A reply has been received to the branch’s representations for a Post Office to be built in the township to the effect that the Department is investigating the position of providing other accommodation for a Post Office.
It is pointed out by members that even if a larger switch board is installed, until such time as the Department construct the proposed new line from Murupara to Te Teko or duplicate the existing line to Rotorua the congestion now taking place on outward and inward communications will not be relieved but further increased. A vote of thanks for the use of the bakehouse, in which the meeting was held, was carried with applause.
