Oyster-Opening Title

The oyster-opening championships at Invercargill this year carried national status, and although there were no contestants from outside Southland, the standard of opening left no doubt about the position occupied by the southern operators. Three of the men in the New Zealand open championship took 37 minutes or less to get through sacks of 60 dozen. The winner, A. R. McMurdo, of Invercargill, opened his sack of oysters in 36 minutes, and C. Meddler, of Bluff, runner-up last year, was just ten seconds behind him, three oysters away. An oyster--eating competition may t)e held latter in the season.
