WHAKATANE BRANCH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The annual general meeting of the Whakatane Returned Services’ Association was held in the King Street Hall on Friday, April 25, there toeing about .100 members present. Mr L. H. Brown (president) presided. The annual statement of receipts and expenditure and balance sheet * were adopted. Mr C. F. Thomas in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet stated that the president and executive were to be congratulated on the year’s work. He had been advised that the average attendance of executive members at th emonthly meetings was 98 per •cent. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr L. H. Brown; vicepresident, Mr D. S. Wilson; treasurer, Mr L. M. Roach; Maori members and executive, Rev. W. Rangi and Mr W. Coates; executive, Messrs C. Head, G. Otley, A. Hall, T. H. Morgan, N. Patterson, A. J. Atkinson, J. Bryant, J. C. Cannell, J. Hyland, C. R. Wilson, J. Stewart, G. Santon, T. Macken, L. W. Luxton, J. H. Armstrong, and G. Logan; auditor, Mr F. Prideaux.
Mr C. R. Wilson made reference to the work of Mr C. A. Head, the retiring secretary and treasurer, who did not seek re-election. Mr Head had held the office for 16 years and had done a tremendous amount of work for the R.S.A., and had at all times been a most willing worker. He, Mr Wilson, had much pleasure in moving that Mr Head be made a Life Member of the Association, and that the presentation of the Gold Badge of such office should be made at a suitable function to be arranged by the incoming executive.
Mr G. W. Mexted endorsed Mr Wilson’s remarks and seconded the motion which was carried unanimously by acclamation. Mr Head expressed his thanks for the honour extended to him.
A hearty vote of thanks to the ladies and all who helped with the sale of poppies was carried by acclamation. The sum of £215 is already to hand with several small returns to come. General A full discussion took place on the subject of Co-operative Stores. Members could see no objection to co-operation or Co-operative Stores, ;but were unanimous that in the interests of both the general public and Returned Servicemen that a monopoly should not be granted rsuch stores.
Thanks: Mr C. R. Wilson moved .a vote of thanks to Mr L. H. Brown ;for his work during the past year .and for his assistance to Returned .'Servicemen generally. His advice ;and help were at all times cheerfully given although at times it must have been at considerable inconvenience to himself. Mr A. Hall seconded the motion .and endorsed Mr Wilson’s remarks. He stated that although Mr Brown was* a very busy men he always made time to assist Returned Servicemen. The Association was indeed fortunate in having his services.
The motion was carried by acclamation.
