BOXING

BAY OF PLENTY ASSOCIATION MEETING AT MATATA Representatives of the Tauranga, Opotiki, Te Puke, Whakatane Boxing Associations and ! the Department of Internal Affairs met at Matata re-' cently. 1 t Individual associations reported on their activities and proposed programmes for 1947.

The advisability of forming a Bay of Plenty Boxing Association was fully considered and it was felt on good purpose would be served at present and the matter was allowed to lapse. It was decided to set up a circuit committee with the object of determining dates of local associations’ tournaments to prevent overlapping. On the motion of Mr C. S. Morris it was 1 decided that Bay of Plenty championships should be staged during 1947. It was decided to invite the Tauranga Association to stage the 1947 championships, other associations to lend all support possible. Subsidies to Sports Bodies and Organisations: Mr C. Jones explained the objects of and the necessary qualifications for and procedure to be adopted by associations wishing to obtain subsidies from the fund administered by the Department of Internal Affairs and offered his services in an advisory capacity to any associations seeking financial assistance from this direction and expressed a keen desire to assist in every way possible the establishment of boxing schools and the furtherance of the sport in the Bay.

Trophies: On the motion of Mr B. Magee, seconded by Mr C. S. Morris it was decided that delegates make recommendations to their respective associations to the effect that trophies be awarded to winners only during the 1947 season in order to ensure uniformity throughout the Bay of Plenty. A suggestion that the circuit committee should adopt the principle of allowing for an interval of 10 days between tournaments, was favourably received by the meeting, and a recommendation accordingly was made to the circuit committee. Suggested dates for the tournaments were recommended for adoption by local associations.
