Winter Timetable The N.Z.R. Road Service winter timetable covering the RotoruaWairoa and Wairoa-Rotorua service cars comes into operation from the first week in May. Instead of a daily service car over these routes the cars will run on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday only. Real Wealth
“The real wealth of any community lies in the quality of life of its members, not in its material success or prosperity,” said the Rev. L. § A. North to the 69th annual meeting of the Central Baptist Church. “We, are in danger of forgetting this truth in an age that is far more concerned with right and privileges A than it is with its duties and responsibilities.” Tallow Prices
The president of the New Zealand Master Butchers’ Federation, commenting on the recent increase in tallow prices for the export market* urged all butchers to eliminate any wastage of tallow or tallow producing fats, now that increased prices has placed the production of tallow • < on an economic basis. The Government, in its desire to export the maximum quantity of fats to Britain, f. had responded to a request for an f increase in prices, and*it was now reasonable to ask every butcher to respond to this action by making available for export every possible ‘ pound of tallow. Youthful Resourcefulness Resource and common sense were “ shown by a small Soutji Taranaki boy who, when his older companion had a large schnapper hook firmly embedded in his foot, placed him on a hand-cart and pulled him about two and a-half miles to the Hawera hospital. That was the story told to hospital authorities when the, pair arrived there in a travel-stainr \ ed condition. It was discovered that the older boy, Paul Kerehomo, aged 12 years, was playing with his companion, Morris Nothcott, on Tokaora Road when the hook pierced his foot. Some attempts at freeing the hook were made by Morris Nothcott before they .set out for the hospital. Demand For Camp Cookers
Because of the power shortage in; the North Isand, and restrictions on the use of electric stoves, a Christchurch manufacturer has received orders from merchants for thous-.; ands of methylated spirit cookers. These cookers, which were’ formerly--made for use by campers and* in. caravans or seaside homes, are now being shipped to the North Island' at the rate of 1000 a month. Soy great has been the demand that the firm has been unable to make enough fuel containers for the cookers, and therefore has issued an appeal to school children for empty" brass, metal or car polish tins, which; can be adapted for the purpose.'
