FIRE CONTROL
WHAKATANE DISTRICT GAZETTED A WIDE COVERAGE At the last meeting of the Whakatane County Council the County Cierk outlined the extent of the recently gazetted Whakatane Fire District which had been altered on the application of the Whakatane Paper Mills. Such district comprised 149,500 acres situated in Rotoma, Rangitaiki Upper, Rangitaiki Lower, Galatea and Rauwahia Survey Districts. The district commenced at the junction of the Rotorua-Wha-katane Road and the Te Teko-Gal-atea Road in Block X, Rangitaiki Upper Survey District; thence towards the east generally by the eastern side of the Te Teko-Galatea Road to the Kopuriki Stream; towards the south by the Kopuriki Stream to and across the Rangitaiki River; towards the east by the Rangitaiki River to the Pokairoa Stream; towards the south by the Pokairoa Stream and permanent State Forest (Gazette, 1931, page 3412); towards the west by the western boundary of Whakatane County and to and across the Roto-rua-Whakatane Road; and towards the north by the northern side of the said Rotorua-Whakatane Road to its junction with the Galatea-Te Teko Road.
