MURUPARA CLUB LADIES’ TEAMS That hockey this season will cause keen interest is evidenced by the keenness prevailing among residents and players. So far only friendly matches have been played between Murupara and Te Whaiti and Ruatahuna and Te Whaiti. On Saturday the Ruatahuna team travelled to Murupara and suffered a defeat by the local players. On the average both teams shaped well and with practice will develop more sure tactics as well as speed. The visitors were given refreshments by the local ladies before leaving for Ruatahuna at seven in the evening. The competition this season should see five teams after the cup if Waihou enter. The Murupara Club’s officers have been elected as follows: Chairwoman, Mrs M. Bird; secretary, Miss W. Grant; selector, Mrs J. Nuku. This club has a membership of about twenty-five and besides being the shield winners of last year they have hopes of victory again this season. Hockey officially opens next Saturday, when a tournament will be held in Murupara and hopes are expressed that all tqams will be seen in action.
