A letter was received from the Department of Internal Affairs approving the grant of £2:> towards the cost of the pavilion. An account for 10/- was passed for payment. The balance sheet had not been audited, stated the president, but he recommended its adoption subject to audit and this was accordingly done. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. Howat; president, Mr J. D. Rivett; vice-presidents, Messrs. C. Hudson, T. Stevenson Snr. (after ballot); secretary, Mr H. Jones; treasurer, Mr R. F. Morgan; auditor, Mr H. G. Warren; honorary veterinary surgeon, Mr A. Thompson; committee, Messrs. F. Kerr, S. Kerr, W. Kenyon. W. Mayo, J. Hanright, C. Zinsli, L. George, W. Tysson and W. Rivett. General Business A recommendation from the president that school boys be taught to shoot and encouraged to join the club was the subject of a long discussion. The president stated that it was a condition of the Government grant that school boys be allowed to join the club and take part in the shots. Members weer in favour of bringing in younger members and giving them practical instruction in the handling of firearms as well as allowing them to shoot. Appreciation A motion of appreciation to Mr S. Hirst for his services as treasurer as carried. The president said that he hoped Mr Hirst would not lose interest in the club and hoped that later he would be able to take the position once more. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to the auditor for the past year, Mr L. R. Spring, thanking him for service. Honorarium and Subscription
The secretary’s honorarium was fixed at £lO for the past season. After considerable discussion it was decided to allow the annual subscription to remain the same as for last year, i.e. 5/-. Double Banking Members spoke at length on the system of the N.Z. Gun Club’s method of making a charge of 2/- for an open shooter’s card, allowing the holders to participate in open shoots. Where a man was a financial member of more than one club the N.Z. Gun Club benefited to the extent of 2/- from every club he belonged to. On the motion of Mr F. Cameron it was decided to draw up a remit protesting against this double banking of premiums and forward it to be discussed at the annual meeting. Smoko It was decided to confine the ‘smoko’ to members and their wives only. It" was decided to leave arrangements to the incoming committee with the recommendation that the ‘smoko’ take banquet form. Competitions The incoming committee is to go into the question of arranging competitions for fishermen and dog trials. Members were of th eopinion that dog trials' would never amount to anything until outside dogs and judges were brought in for the occasion.
