PORT REVENUE
FEBRUARY AND MARCH WHARFAGES SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE SHOWN In his report to the Harbour Board last week the secretary showed wharfages for the months of February and March with comparative figures as under:—
He reported further that the increase was principally on account of the Paper Mills importation of paper pulp. Connected with wharfages, a letter had been directed to Mr Ken Schofield advising him that if his cement consignments were not uplifted in accordance with the ByLaws he would be charged 1/- per ton per day storage. There had also been correspondence with the Superintendent of Land Development and the Native Department in which the Board ad-, vised that it would not be able to provide storage for fertiliser which was being consigned to the Lands and Survey Department and the Native Department. Probably over 25,000 bags og super was involved | and such was being diverted to the port by the State owing to the railway truck shortage. The Lands and Survey Department had been advised that even although the State manure entered the port free, the Board would give consideration to erecting additional shed accommodation were the consignment of such manure via the port a permanent arrangement.
The report was received and letters approved.
