WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

TE TEKO BRANCH The March meeting of the >Te Teko Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held recently. Mrs J. Pryor presided over a small attendance of members. The meeting opened with the reading of the Creed, after which correspondence and routine business was dealt with. Mrs Taini Pryor had presented the branch with the very attractive basket with which she had demonstrated flax weaving at an earlier meeting and it was decided to hold this for a competition at the annual meeting. In view of the fact that the usual Division meeting was due immediately after Easter it was decided to postpone it for a week so that the annual meeting will be held on April 15. An amusing debate “Should Women Smoke” took place with Mesdames Carr and Goodwin opposing and Mesdames Smith and Balfour who supported the motion. On a show of hands the supporting team won by one vote. The prize winners were: Best bloom, Mrs A. Jamieson 1; Mrs T. Watson 2. Dripping biscuits, Mrs A. Jamieson. The serving of afternoon tea brought an enjoyable meeting to a close.
