Income Tax Payable The Commissioner of Taxes draws the attention of taxpayers resident in the Hamilton Tax District to the notification in this issue that the due date for payment of income tax by taxpayers of the Hamilton Tax District (other than companies) is Wednesday the ninth day of April, 1947, and that the 5 per cent, additional tax will accrue if not paid on or before the thirtieth day of April, 1947.

Slight Earthquake Whakatane residents report that a slight earthquake was felt on Tuesday night. The tremor took place at about 8.40 p.m. The very slight nature of the quake may' be judged by the fact that a woman who was walking about was unaware that it had taken place but her husband, who was sitting in a chair noticed the tremor and commented on it.

Future Hospital Board Meetings The Whakatane Hospital Board decided at its meeting yesterday to hold its future meetings in the Tutorial block at the hospital. The reasons for this move from the Borough Council Chambers after many years of usage, are based on the fact that accommodation was now available at the hospital and further that officers could be interviewed on the spot and any necessary inspections made.

Lemons For Hospital When the Hospital Board yesterday discussed the subject of a steadier supply of lemons to the hospital, Mr H. C. McCready said that he hoped steps would be taken to see that patients did receive the fruit when they wanted them. He instanced a case of a' patient asking for a lemon drink for three weeks before he received it. The chairman observed that there were possibly sound explanations for any incidents of that nature and he thought it better to make enquiries at the hospital itself before trying to discuss them. Gifts Acknowledged The Whakatane Hospital Board yesterday at its meeting ~ acknowledged with thanks the following* donations over the month of March to the institution: Magazines, Mesdames Le Comte, Hoyland and Cairns and Messrs. Goodrick, Attwood, Langenberger and Rev. Drake; books, Manawahe" Library and Mrs Cairns; produce and flowers, Knox Sunday School and Presbyterian Church; flounder, Mr J. White; grapes, Mr T. Richards; peaches, Mrs M. F. Walker, Mr Schofield; apples, Mrs Yeoman; lemons, Mr Bowditch. The services of the Pipe Band were likewise greatly appreciated.
