INTOXICATION CHARGE

VISITING MOTORIST FINED SEQUEL TO ACCIDENT A plea of guilty was entered by Raymond Herbert Thorn, of Putarurr, when he appeared before Messrs C. G. Lucas and J. King, J's.P. in the Whakatane Court last Monday charged with being intoxicated in charge of a motor vehicle. Sergeant Farrell, who prosecuted said that Thorn told the police that he was returning from a dance at Ohope. When he turned from George Street into the Strand he thought he saw a car coming towards him. Actually it was stationary with its lights on. In his efforts to dodge the vehicle Thorn collided with it, the impact knocking it back into another car behind. The first car was badly damaged but the one behind escaped very lightly.

Thorn was convicted and fined £2O with £1 1/- medical expenses.
