DONATIONS INVITED
REBUILDING OF ISLAND SHACK OLD RESIDENT’S PLIGHT Sponsored by the Mayor (Mr B. S. Barry) a special fund has been created with an objective of approximately £SO for the purpose of rebuilding the home of Mr J. McEwan, who for many years resided on the island opposite the Strand, and whose small bach and belongings were destroyed by fire two weeks ago. The appeal for a bach having failed to find any response, Messrs. Boon Sullivan and Luke have agreed to supply the timber, and it remains for the Mayor to organise a group of workers to build the bach and establish it on the site of the old one.
It is estimated that something like £SO will be required to set the building up and furnish it with the necessary fittings, and it is towards that end that donations are invited and may be either handed in to the BEACON Office or to Mr Barry personally. To date the following donations are acknowledged:— W. J. Francis £lO 0 A. W. McGregor 10 0 Mrs E. M. Sheather 10 0 Jim White 5 0 Total £2 15 0
