MAORI TRIBUTES

DR. E. BRIDGEMAN FAREWELLED

A large gathering of residents from the district gathered at the Rangitaiki Hall on Saturday evening to bid farewell to Dr. E. Bridgeman. The doctor has for the past three years been attending the distinct giving a valuable service to both Pakeha and Maori alike. There is no doubt that Dr. Bridgeman has built up a high standard of esteem within the distinct and perhaps more so among the many Maori patients whom he has treated. The district has fought strenuously for his services to be retained. In presenting the Doctor with a travelling bag, Mr Cawte paid tribute to the excellent work done by Dr. Bridgeman and the willingness he always displayed in endeavouring to assist the residents. He also wished the Doctor a bright future and a happy and enjoyable tour. On behalf of the Maori people the Doctor was presented with a cheque. In replying, Dr. Bridgeman thanked the people for their well wishes and told them that he regretted that his work had come to an end among them. He expressed his appreciation of their co-operation with him in his duties and also for the enjoyable evening and the chance to meet them all prior to his departure. The Doctor will shortly leave on an extended tour.

Dancing to the local dance band was continued until a late hour.
