WHAKATANE BRANCH MEETING "The.--Whakatane Returned Services Association Inc. Committee meeting was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Friday the 21st inst. Present Mr L. H. Borwn, Messrs. J. Bryant, G. Santon, Rev. Rangi, I. Tunui, G. Otley, Doug. Wilson, R. Bluett, A. Hall, J. Stewart, D. S'. Wilson, H. B. Cutler and C. A. Head, secretary.
Housing and Sections: The special committee set up to go into this question reported that it had delved very defeply into this matter, and that it had decided that the best way to try to get results, was by a questionnaire to be filled in by all returned service personnel who were in difficulty regarding sections or housing, these questionnaires were now available and would be handed out on application. There was considerable discussion on the matter of sections and housing and the matter will not be shelved.
Mr Brown brought forward the matter of Co-operative Stores and suggested that this question should be brought forward at the annual meeting. . . • ... It was decided to hold the annual Poppy Day Appeal on Friday, April 18, and that the Anzac Day Service should continue as in previous years, the service to be at 11 a.m. at the Rock. All kindred societies will be invited to participate in the parade, leaving from the Old Wharf. The annual meeting will be held on Anzac Day in the King Street Hall.
It was proposed that a letter of protest be forwarded to the Borough Council on the matter of letting the Borough Chambers to outside traders in opposition to Returned Servicemen in the town.
