PRICES FOR TALLOW
INCREASE ANNOUNCED INCENTIVE TO SAVE FAT Producers throughout the Dominion will be gratified to read the Government’s announcement regarding the increased iprices to be paid for tallow, stated the General Manager of the New Zealand Meat Producers Board, in an interview today. For some time past my Board has been urging the Government to take this step in order to stimulate the collection of fat and- so bring into production the many hundreds of tons that are being wasted throughout the Dominion.
Tallow prices have been advanced by approximately 80 per cent, over all. The increases, which range from £ll 2s per ton for low grade gut tallow to £2l for first grade beef tallow, will enable dealers to pay increased prices for fat, thus providing the necessary incentive to those who can make additional supplies available. Fats of all descriptions occupy a prominent place among the urgent needs of Great Britain and all who can help to remedy this deficiency in however small a way are strongly urged to db so and thus discharge what may be* considered a moral obligation towards our kinsfolk overseas.
