LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

WHAKATANE MEETING

The League of Mothers opened the first meeting of the year in the form of a garden party at the residence of Mrs Suckling, Goulstone Road, last Tuesday. Mrs Metcalfe opened the party by reading the Rules and Objects of the League. The lovely shady trees lent themselves to an ideal setting for a hot summer’s day. Seats were arranged under the trees and these were taken advantage and while many entered the varous competitions.

Mrs Shaw and Mrs Wolliams did a brisk trade at the bring and buy stall.

Mrs Sumner kindly came forward to judge the babies and mentioned that she found it difficult with so many bonny babies. In the section under 12 mqnths Catriona Pyne was placed Ist and Shirley Richai’ds won the section from 1-2 years. Mrs Woolliams won the Ladder Croquet and Mrs W. Bridger the Clock Golf. The hidden treasure was won by Mrs Gow and the number was in a bottle by Mrs Cole.

A beautiful afternoon tea was served outdoors under the trees after which Mrs Metcalfe presented the prizes for the various competitions and thanked all for making the afternoon such a success.'
