Large Kauri Logs

The first kauri to be brought to Whangarei by road for over a year was trucked through the town recently on its way to the Whangarei Timber Company mill at the town wharf. The kauri was felled at Purua and cut up into three sections, which were brought by heavy timber trucks to Whangarei. The largest log had a girth of 19ft. 4in. and a length of 14ft. and contained 3991 superficial feet. The other two logs contained 6600 superficial feet of timber. The manager of the timber company, Mr H. Beehre, said that in over 30 years of milling experience he had not seen more per-fectly-shaped logs.
