” WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ANNUAL MEETING The March meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute was held in the Waimana Hall. Mrs Wylde was President in the absence of Mrs F. J. Savage. The proceedings opened with the Institute song followed by the minutes and correspondence. Mrs John Addison’s letter was .read and full of interest, also a letter received by Mrs Wool- ! field from the Link in England, htnking the members for the parcel received and how the contents were greatly appreciated, and all were most grateful for the gifts. Mrs Wylde thanked all for the help at the recent Show, which proved a great success.
The competition for the “Cheese” was won by Mrs Fleming. Impromptu speeches during the afternoon proved most interesting and entertaining.
The day’s competitions were well competed for; the judges gave the following awards: Best single flower, Mrs W. Stevenson 1, Miss F. Woolfi'eld 2, Mrs Fleming 3. Best double flower, Mrs H. Bell 1, Mrs King 2, Mrs Stevenson 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Miss Woolfielcl 3. Best three potatoes, Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs I. Savage 3. Wholemeal sponge, Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs I. Savage 3.
The minutes of the annual meeting were read and confirmed and the balance sheet and report were adopted. Mrs Wylde on behalf of Mrs F. J. Savage thanked all for help during the past year, and the co-operation of the committee and members. Mrs Woolfield also congratulated the president and committee for the good year’s work The Drama and Gardening Circle reports were also presented and revealed a most successful year’s activities.
Election of officers resulted as blows:—
President: Mrs R. Looney. Secretary-Treasurer: Mrs Stev enson.
Vice-presidents: Mrs Wylde and Mrs R. White.
Press Correspondent: Mrs King,
Committee: Mrs D. Boynton, Mrs C. N. White, Mrs Such, Mrs Rust, Mrs Hewitt, Miss F. Woolfield.
The winners of the points prizes during the past year were: Best single flower, Mrs H. Bell 1, Mrs Stevenson 2, Mrs Hewitt 3. Best double flower, Mrs H. Bell 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs Stevenson 3. Best vegetable, Mrs F. Bell 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs I. Savage 3. General competitions: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs I. Savage 2, Mrs F. Bell 3.
Mrs Wylde on behalf of the members, presented Mrs Stevenson with a gift, as a small appreciation of her great work as secretary during the past year. The retiring president, Mrs F. J. Savage, will also have a gift forwarded to her in appreciation of services rendered.
A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses and the National Anthem closed a busy afternoon.
