MURUPARA NEWS
STEADY DEVELOPMENT SHOWN FISHING SEASON POPULAR (From our own correspondent) Many visitors from all parts of the Island have come to Murupara during this fishing season, to try their luck with fly and rod in the rivers of the district. Fishing throughout the season has been good with exceptional catches occasionally reported. The continual dry spell has not been helpful as many of the small streams are now only a mere trickle. The Whirinaki river as well as the Rangitaiki however, still provide excellent fishing. New High School The Galatea and Murupara district passed another milestone when schools opened this year, with the addition of a High School. This will no doubt prove to be one of the greatest contributions to the future prosperity of this area. Besides catering for the needs of the Galatea and Murupara pupils it also is attended by some pupils from Te Whaiti. Consideration should be given to transport problems that confront pupils desiring to attend the Kaingaroa district. Those responsible for the commencement of the High School are to be commended.
School Swimming Baths
The Rangitahi Native School Committee are alive to the necessity of providing swimming baths at the school for the pupils. During the past they have collected a large amount and a fund has been set aside for the purpose of providing swimming baths.
Site For Theatre
By felling a large pine tree during the past few days on the site which he has chosen for his new theatre, the local proprietor has made the first step in the building of a much needed hall in Murupara. The building to be erected will be a useful one for the community generally. Besides serving as a picture theatre it will also provide a first class dance hall as and when required as well as providing space for public meetings and other entertainment. Concrete blocks for the construction are already landed on the site. R.M. Service With the recent commencement of the RtfPal Delivery of mails and parcels in the districts of Galatea and Murupara another much needed facility has been gained by inhabitants. The district should be alive to future possibilities of this service by aiming at a service to connect with one in operation from Whakatane to Waiahou.
Whakatane Interests
That Whakatane business people show keen interest in the welfare of the Galatea and Murupara districts is indicated in a recent letter to the secretary of the local branch of the Chamber of Commerce wherein an offer is made to travel to Murupara to meet and discuss branch affairs with the local branch. Their offer was readily accepted, and very much appreciated by members. Easter Campers The long spell of good weather has brought many campers to camping and other sites in the district. It is confidently expected that during the Easter holidays many fishermen and. at least one party of deer stalkers will relax from city life under canvas. Ideal spots for camping are numerous.
