NAVAL LAUNCHES VISIT
DUE TODAY SHORT ENTERTAINMENT PLANNED The Mayor, B. S. Barry, Esq., has received the following letter from Lieutenant B. E. Turner, R.N.Z.N. Staff Officer Operations, Naval Officer fin Charge, Auckland : In the course of a visit through the Auckland Naval Command area X propose to visit Whakatane at 1 p.m. on Friday, Mrach 14 (today) in an Harbour Defence Motor Launch, and stay over night. I am making this trip to familiarise myself with the ports and townships within the area, and I would like to call on you during the afternoon.
The Motor Launch offers limited scope for entertainment but I would like to entertain 12 citizens and their wives, representative of your township and official bodies on board between 5.30 and 7 p.m. on Friday evening.
The invitation to leading citizens has been accepted with pleasure by Mr Barry and a representative party will be visiting the launch this evening.
