Dear Sir,

COURT REPORT Sir, —I wish to correct the report regarding the trial for theft of Mr Mason appearing in your issue of Wednesday, March 12, in which you state that Mason was allowed to stay on the launch of which I am in charge. Mason had no authority to board the launch and did so without my leave. Yours etc., WILLIAM OXENBRIDGE. (We regret the apparent error and can only point to the manner in which the evidence was presented for our report. Ed.)

Another Bumper Rate!

When a letter was received from the P.W.D. inviting members to attend the screening of the special film dealing with Soil Erosion, the Whakatane Hospital Board staged an interesting discussion on the' prospective land rate which was likely to be levied under the establishment of a Catchment Board covering the Eastern Bay. Mr McCready said it was all vei-y well to see some effort being made to instruct the general public but once a Board was formed there would be a soil erosion rate which would make the hospital rate look silly. He thought the Board should suggest that the Rivers Protection and Control Council should get down to practical business and do some protective work where it was most needed.
