CONTROL OF THE DOMAIN
NOW that the Borough Council has signified its willingness to take over and administrate the Whakatane Domain, it would appear that the time was ripe for a concerted effort by the Sporting Bodies to pool all their resources in order to achieve the projected developmental scheme which was raised just over a-year ago. Under this scheme all types of sport were to be catered for, a grandstand erected, a swiming bath constructed aqd the whole grounds laid out in a neat attractive form. As everybody knows all these facilities are long overdue, and their continued absence from our sporting fields, must act as a serious handicap to the athletic standards in every avenue of out-door sport. The combined sports already possesses funds, the residue from the Queen Carnival which was commenced before the war for this very purpose, and which unfortunately was never completed. If the facilities were needed then they are far more essential today with a bigger and a still growing population. The Domain Board will willingly subscribe to the merging of interests with the Council, and the new set-up only requires* formal steps to be brought completely into being. The time is ripe for the sporting bodies to get moving, in order that they will have plans and suggestions in readiness for submission to the Council without any delay.
