Building Costs
Building costs in New Zealand seemed to be about 50 per cent, higher than in Australia, said Mr G. S. Lang, a Melbourne visitor to Christchurch. Mr Lang is a real estate agent. and a member of an “economic panel,” which, he said, is the Australian counterpart of the New Zealand Land Sales Committee. A house which would cost 30s a square foot to build in Melbourne would cost £2 5s in New Zealand. The same house in Australia would have cost slightly more than 19s a square foot seven years ago.
