MURUPARA TOWNSHIP

REQUEST FOR TAR-SEALING NO COUNTY FUNDS AVAILABLE In a letter to the Whakatane County Council, the Murupara branch of the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce stated that it had already made representations td the Public Works Department to undertake the tar sealing of the main highway through the township of Murupara. At present the dust nuisance was causing very much concern. From all accounts it would appear that the work would be undertaken at an early date. In order to further reduce this dust nuisance it was requested that the council undertake the sealing from the road edge to the business premises. The council has advised the writers that the council contributes £2OO per annum —considerably in excess of the rate receipt—to the Public Works Department, towards the maintenance cost of the MuruparaTe Whaiti Road—that in these circumstances it regretted it had no rate or other funds available for the sealing of the road in front of the business premises. The council respectfully suggested that applicants confer with the Public Works Department on the matter of that Department doing this work at their expense when the Department was sealing 18 feet of roadway in this locality.
