HECTIC 14 SECONDS
RUATORIA ROUGH-RIDER “ARISTOCRAT” TOO STRONG During the recent visit by Lance Skuthorpe’s rodeo to Ruatoria, spectators were thrilled for some 14 seconds as they witnessed the fury of the “outlaw” horse Aristocrat in his endeavours to unseat the wellknown Ruatoria horseman, Mr Frank Bruce. With only a second to go to earn £2O the rider parted company with the horse. Shortly before the war Mr Bruce was captain of the New Zealand rodeo team which competed in .Sydney. / The contest between the “outlaw” which has been used extensively but never ridden in Australian and American rodeos, and a rider now long out of training, held the tense interest of the spectators.
Afterwards Mr Bruce said he had had to leave the saddle as the horse was too strong for him with his lack of rough-riding practice in the last few years. Spectators and showmen were unanimous in the opinion that Mr Bruce in training could have gained the £2O offered for a 15-sec-ond ride.
