House Prices in England
“I suppose the war has not affected the cost of houses in New Zealand to the extent that it has here. My house in London, which was destroyed in 1944, was built in 1939 for £l3oo—to replace it now is estimated to cost more than £4000.” This statement was made in a letter from a resident of Brighton, England, to a member of the Christchurch Rotary Club, who sent him a food parcel. Houses which cost £BOO to build before the war are selling freely from £2500 to £3OOO at present, he said.
